Brooks & Dunn and ZZ Top: Something for everybody at the Ford Center

from the Oklahoman Review
You know it's going to be an interesting evening when you're told it's a "no bottle event" done presumably to prevent stray beverage containers from ending up on stage.

This was the case during a Sunday night concert featuring Brooks & Dunn and ZZ Top. Country singer Rodney Atkins opened the show at the Ford Center before an estimated crowd of nearly 6,000.

Atkins set up the evening with several of his hits, beginning with the fiddle-driven "These Are My People." He looked right at home and just off the farm in a ball cap, plaid shirt, worn jeans and work boots. Atkins, also a talented song writer, performed all his familiar songs including, "About the South," "If You're Going Through Hell" and "Watching You" about a life lesson he learned from his young son.

Playing it fair: Rodney Atkins follows his heart

When you're out on the road with Brooks & Dunn and ZZ Top — on the same tour, no less — who can blame Rodney Atkins for not having the time to get on the phone for an interview.
But he did agree to answer e-mail questions from his laptop on the bus. We caught up with the hot country upstart before he breaks from that tour to do a one-off headlining date of his own at the Brown County Fair on Friday night — his second stop in front of his Green Bay-area people this year:
Q. Your first four singles off "If You're Going Through Hell'' all went No. 1. Was there one that surprised you most that it topped the charts?
A. I really believed in all these songs. I never dreamed they would result in the most-played songs of the year. I guess if one surprised me more than the others it would have to be "Cleaning This Gun.'' I loved the song the first time I heard it, but I didn't know if everyone would get my twisted sense of humor. I'm really glad they did.

Rodney Atkins' Garth Brooks Sighting

Rodney Atkins grew up a huge fan of Garth Brooks, so one of the perks he hoped to get out of becoming a country star himself was the chance to meet Garth.
And it happened when Rodney attended the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas this May. His son, Elijah, was with him — appropriate since Elijah inspired Rodney to write "Watching You," which was nominated for both Song of the Year and Video of the Year.

Rodney On The New Album

from GACtv.comRodney Atkins surpassed all of his expectations when his current album, If You’re Going Through Hell, yielded four No. 1 singles, including two — the title track and "Watching You" — that were the most played songs on country radio the year they were released.
Rodney had earned only one previous hit single before that CD came out, so he wasn’t entirely sure that the album would get much attention. But it brought recognition, big sales and a lot more time to work on the next project.

New site inspires, equips Americans to help children in foster care

The National Council For Adoption (NCFA) and Wal-Mart have teamed up to launch www.FamiliesForAll.org as the centerpiece of their jointly supported Families For All public awareness campaign.

Built around the powerful message that “there’s enough love in America to provide loving families for all children in foster care,” the campaign is designed to inspire and equip American families to help children in foster care.

“The FamiliesForAll.org Web site will serve as a valuable online resource for the more than 55-million couples and countless single adults who could help the 510,000 children in foster care, whether through mentoring, foster care, adoption, respite care, service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, or volunteering with a local agency,” said Thomas Atwood, NCFA President and CEO. “We all have a responsibility to these children, and anyone can make a positive difference in the life of a vulnerable child in foster care.”

Atkins returns for third Country Concert

from The Troy Daily News
Rodney Atkins is no stranger to
the Country Concert at Hickory
Hill Lakes — he’s back for a third
time this year. But this time
around, the singer/songwriter will
buzz into Fort Loramie with a little
more hardware in tow.
Atkins, one of just a handful of
country artists who can boast four
consecutive No. 1 singles from the
same album, landed six nominations
from the Academy of Country
Music this year — just one year
removed from winning the ACM’s
2006 Top New Male Vocalist award.
He is slated to take the main stage
Saturday at approximately 6 p.m.

Brooks & Dunn bring their Cowboy Town tour to Montage

BY PATRICE WILDING
The city became a “Cowboy Town” on Sunday night, courtesy of the Brooks & Dunn concert at Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain.

After a pair of raucous opening acts, the headliners exploded onto the stage by 9 p.m. to their smash single and namesake of their tour, “Cowboy Town.” Backed by a seven-piece band and three sultry female backup singers, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn had each of the 6,424 people in attendance on their feet and screaming themselves hoarse right from the beginning.

“You Can’t Take the Honky Tonk Out of the Girl” brought the crowd to new heights of frenzy, especially when Brooks whipped off his brown leather jacket and shouted “Looks like a good place to party, doesn’t it?”

Rodney Atkins: Country's golden boy to sing for 'his people'

from Chattanooga Free Times Press
Riverbend’s Coca-Cola barge is an unusual stage, but it’s not the weirdest place Rodney Atkins has ever performed.
“One time I sang at a wedding in grocery store,” the country singer said during a phone interview.
“A radio station in Knoxville was doing a contest, and the station and a grocery paid for the (winning couple’s) wedding and honeymoon. They asked me to sing. There I was in the frozen-food section singing ‘Keeper of the Stars.’”

Rodney Atkins, Sarah Johns bring Taste of Country to Dunn Tire Park

from the Buffalo News
Country star Rodney Atkins’ song about protective fathers, “Cleaning This Gun (Come on in Boy),” comes from a true life experience.
As a teenager growing up in Tennessee, Atkins went to meet the parents of the first girl he ever dated and got a unique greeting: “Her dad was standing outside, a big Kentucky coal mine guy, and he was out there with a .357, Campbell’s tomato soup cans, bottle caps, and he’s just shooting those things sitting on the bank,” Atkins said in a thick Southern drawl. “It would just blow the whole thing apart, and that red from the soup was just flying everywhere.”

Getting Rodney

from CMT Daily Roundup

The latest hit single from Rodney Atkins is “Invisibly Shaken.” This is a song Rodney says he wanted to include on his Honesty album way back in 2003. But back then, he says, he couldn’t get people to buy into the song. (Cut #8) “This is a song I actually wrote before we even did the ‘Honesty’ album. And nobody got it. Nobody got the song at all. And I just started playing it live for audiences and they got it.” Rodney has taken his last four songs to number one. “Invisibly Shaken” has just cracked the Top 40 on its climb up the charts.

Rodney Atkins Touched By Young Fan's Memory

Rodney Atkins' country music career is on a decided upswing. A year ago, he won best new male vocalist in balloting at the Academy of Country Music. This year, he was nominated for six ACM awards, including album and male vocalist of the year. He lost out, but the voice behind "If You're Going Through Hell," knows contests and awards are not what's important in life. And for that, he can look the life and death of a 6-year-old fan.
Abby Niemuth had big dreams. She was going to adopt five children and become a singer, artist, veterinarian and grocer.
Abby Niemuth was 6 years old when she died on Memorial Day weekend. The kindergartner never got to be a mom, paint a masterpiece, doctor a horse or scan a can of spinach.
But she did get to sing onstage to a packed house in Madison, Wis., with her friend, Rodney Atkins.

Rodney Atkins needs to thank his son, Elijah. He got to meet Garth Brooks because the little guy had to use the restroom.

"He said, 'Hey Rodney.' He called me Rodney, that's funny," said the singer. "He knew who I was. I talked to him [briefly] about what he meant to me. It was pretty cool. I said, 'If I never talk to you again, I want to thank you for every thing. You showed me music can be magic.'"

Atkins discussed his career and personal life with the media before taking the stage in front of a record-sized crowd Saturday night at LP Field.
