Rodney Performs Hit Single on Good Morning America

(April 29, 2009) - Nashville, TN - Platinum-selling recording artist Rodney Atkins joined the hosts of Good Morning America today to surprise a couple near Milwaukee, Wisconsin as part of the show's "At Your House" promotion. The residents were treated to a concert where Atkins performed "It's America" live for the neighborhood and millions of GMA viewers. The song was also used in promos leading up to today's special and host Robin Robert's quipped that it was the theme song for their travels to the households selected across the country.

The hosts have been to Michigan and Virginia already this week and plan to make top secret stops in other parts of the country in an effort to raise awareness on issues that all American's are facing in various cities and neighborhoods.

The title track and first single off his recent release "It's America" made it's way quickly to the top position on the charts making it the country star's fifth number one.  But it's a song that almost didn't make the already completed album.

"When I first heard 'It's America', I had already finished this album," says Atkins. "My drummer played me the song on the road one night, and I knew that it was an important, timeless song that I needed to go back in and record now - it couldn't wait for another album.

Why the hurry? Atkins explains, "We were in the middle of everything with the economy, presidential election, folks losing jobs, some tough times in our country.  This song reminded me about the simple things in life that I cling to when times are good or bad. That's what this album is about and this song fit that profile perfectly about our country."

I love singing about hope, that's what this song is about at its core. I couldn't be more proud."

It's America, released March 31st on Curb Records is Atkins' follow up to platinum-selling album If You're Going Through Hell which gave way to four consecutive number one singles -- two of which were also named most played songs of the year according to Billboard and Country Aircheck - "Watching You" in 2007 and "If You're Going Through Hell" in 2006.

Atkins is currently headlining dates across the country.  He'll be featured in the May issue of Nashville Lifestyles, with his dog Ace, and will talk to FIRST Magazine for their June 22 issue (on stands June 1). Also, May 28, Atkins will perform on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Hannity Show.
